Day 7 (August 7th) Arriving at Maria's Big House of Hope

Arriving at Maria's was amazing. We were all SO excited, and the whole building was just filled with God's presence. This sweet little girl that is with Him now, is changing so many orphans lives through this place. It is amazing.

This was the view in the lobby, they had a plaque with her picture, as well as her now famous flower picture.

This is the state orphanage that is being built across from Maria's. It is much taller and has more room for kids, but it is sad to think the kids there will not be getting the care they so deserve.

On the other side of Maria's is a Prison/rehab place.

This is the operating room. It is so neat because at the first orphanage we were at (New Hope Foundation) the kids had to be sent away to have their minor surgeries (cleft lip and such) but at Maria's, the surgeries can be done right there. We met the doctor, who was a very nice Chinese man.

These next series of pictures are ones I took of the different rooms. This amazing artist, a friend of the Chapmans, came and painted all of this. It was so cool, my Disney obsessed self was LOVING it. Peter Pan is my favorite so I was quite excited about this room.

This is Pearl, she was only 2 weeks old, but born premature. She had to be kept in this incubator. So sad.

After showering and getting settled in, we jumped right into work projects. Here is myself and Stephanie sorting through different medical supplies they received by donation.

I was organizing the needles. I never knew there were so many different kinds!

We also had to move cribs into certain rooms (They refer to rooms based on what Disney theme it had, for example, this is the Peter Rabbit room.

We also had to assemble some shelves. It was quite a process, and we felt rather accomplished afterwards, hence this picture of us and our muscle pose. The girl on the far left is Amber, one of our tour guides. Her parents run New Hope Foundation, so her and her husband Marcio came back for the summer to guide and travel around with the missions teams.
